Danaher Promotes Julie Sawyer Montgomery to CEO

Danaher announced that its board has promoted executive VP and Diagnostics business leader Julie Sawyer Montgomery to CEO. Sawyer Montgomery will move into the corner office on October 1.

Rainer Blair, who has led the Washington, D.C.-based company for six years, will retire and become a transitional senior advisor until March 31, 2027.

Sawyer Montgomery boasts over 25 years of experience in healthcare, commercial operations, R&D. She joined Danaher’s Beckman Coulter Diagnostics business in 2017, where she headed commercial operations and R&D before becoming president in 2020.  She became VP and group executive of Danaher’s Diagnostics business in January 2023 and was named an executive VP in July 2024.

Before Danaher, Sawyer Montgomery held leadership roles at Hospira, a Pfizer company (culminating as president) and Boston Scientific.
